  • Developed keynote presentation and speech material for major speaker at a national innovation conference and to later successfully obtain government funding.
  • Led the development of pitching material and engaged in the business development process with an early stage New Zealand R&D company for acquisition by a range of multinational companies.

Inbound Marketing: Core Marketing and Messaging 7/10

I have considerable experience in product differentiation and the message generation for taking both new and existing products to market. This includes building an expansive understanding of the competitive landscape and developing a strategy accordingly. Some examples from my CV:

  • Led the development of pitching material and engaged in the business development process with an early stage New Zealand R&D company for acquisition by a range of multinational companies.

Experience Design 7/10

Considerable experience and track record in designing user experiences for software, web, print and organisationally. This includes wireframing for all mediums and the management of design capability for execution. Some examples from my CV:

  • Led a user experience upgrade of an e-commerce engine for a major IT distributor.
  • Architected a digital sales process for an enterprise software company, plugging holes where their existing marketing system and brand architecture was failing.
  • Helped craft a website that delivered basic cognitive behavioural therapy to the young victims of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

Tertiary Competences: Areas a job must grow

Marketing Research: 6/10

I’m experienced in completing research that precedes and underlies the development of marketing strategy and the development of branding assets and sales collateral. This research has included market sizing, market validation, competitor analysis, user testing and customer profiling.

Leadership: 6/10

I see leadership capability as distinct from management capability and more akin to influence, I see it as uncoupled from organisational hierarchy. I have experience in driving organisational change in my workplace, determining strategic course and supporting staff in meeting pursuing them. I have experience in Influencing and and helping to maintain organisational values. I am comfortable and experienced in using conflict to reach optimal organisational goals and at working with teams to through conflict to meet challenges not addressed by existing organisational processes. Experiments in my effectiveness in all of the above were conducted in collaboration with my agency and the New Zealand Leadership Institute through the Future Leaders Programme.

People Management: 4/10 or 7/10

I have limited experience in managing people particularly as a superior, however, I have significant experience managing horizontally as a project manager. This has involved the deployment of resources accross a number of functions: design, development, research, strategy development & copy writing. This has included managing the inputs for work (functional specifications & design briefs) as well as all work outputs and iterations with customers.

Process and System Design: 5/10

As distinct from designing sales and marketing systems, of which I hold considerable experience, I have only limited experience in designing internal organisation processes and systems such as those used for generating performance reviews, or for gathering long term sales and marketing data for ongoing decision making.

Finance Acumen: 3/10

I can read and understand financial reports and ratios and have a rudimentary ability to make decisions based on these. I have never been accountable for a profit and loss statement though have been held accountable for project margins throughout my career.
